Doing the Christmas Waltz

Well, look at that: barely two weeks go by, and we’re releasing another free Wordpress theme!

It’s called Christmas Waltz, and it’s done in what we like to think of as a “modern Christmas” style. Light blues give it a cool wintery feel, accented by the warm colors of traditional Christmas symbols such as a decorated tree, mistletoe and, of course, Santa Claus. Here’s a screenshot:

We’re back- with a free theme!

Yes, it’s been a long time since we’ve posted here- we’ve been way too busy doing Wordpress consultancy and creating themes for various clients, which we’re excited to post about here in the coming weeks.

We do hope you’ll forgive us, though, once you see this brand spankin’ new Wordpress theme we’re giving away. That’s right, for free!

The theme is called Simba. It’s clean and unobtrusive. It’s widget-friendly with spaces for ad banners, supports Gravatars, and has plenty of additional space in the footer area. Here’s a small screenshot:

Ready to Get Naked?

I’m talking about your CSS. April 9th (Wednesday) is CSS Naked Day, when hundreds, maybe thousands, of bloggers will “go naked” by stripping off all CSS styles for one day:

Dustin Diaz wanted to give the web world an opportunity to remind everyone of the benefits of CSS web page design. By removing the stylesheet for the day, the world would see naked web pages, giving a little more appreciation for the skills of web page designers. – from Lorelle’s announcement

Apparently, this is the third year of CSS Naked Day. I’ll be joining in, stripping this and my other blog on Wednesday.

Simpleology’s Multimedia Course on Blogging

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

Where to find a blogging job

One of the questions I’m most frequently asked is: can I make money blogging?

The answer is, of course, yes. You can make money setting up your own blog, writing about topics close to your heart, and earning through Text Link Ads, Google Adsense, or similar blog monetization techniques. You’ll have to work on publicizing your blog, though- and if you want to really earn money, you’ll need a healthy dose of good marketing techniques.

What’s easier? Blogging for someone else. Many of the big blog networks are always on the lookout for new bloggers, and they’ll usually take care of the marketing side of things. Here’s where to find the best blogging jobs: Read more

Is Entrecard worth it?

At a recent meeting discussing the redesign of this blog, my partner turned to me and asked, “Are you keeping Entrecard?”

A fair question, and something we ask of every element we place on our blogs. Some widgets work, some don’t. Some ads perform better than others. And so I had to stop and ask myself, is Entrecard working for me?

Notorious list-maker that I am, I drew up a list: Read more

A Blogger’s New Year’s Resolutions

It’s a few days until 2008, and because we’re hosting New Year’s Eve here at home this year (!!!), I wanted to post my resolutions for 2008. These aren’t any old resolutions, either- these are all to do with blogging. Read more
